“Good” Microblading and “Bad” Microblading?

5 Week Healed results on normal skin type, (results vary based on skin type)

Good Microblading is broken down in two parts: 1) immediately after and 2) healed results. Immediately after strokes should appear slightly thicker than the width of the natural hair. Strokes should be very fine and not too thick, not too deep and should follow the natural hair transitions, making the strokes blend in well with your natural hair (which typically follows an upward pattern and then transitions downward). See BEORE AND AFTER page for gallery or immediately after images.

Healed results should appear slightly softer than the initial strokes with no pigment migration or dark blurred lines. If stokes are too deep this will cause scaring and pigment ashing out.

Examples of BAD microblading

Strokes are too thick, possibly too deep, they will heal blurry and ashy. Strokes are not clean, thin, crisp. Again not following hair pattern.

Am I a good candidate for Microblading or Powder Brows?

Unfortunately, pre-existing skin conditions and skin treatments can heavily compromise the effectiveness of Microblading so before you book your appointment make sure you have a good understanding of how certain skin conditions can affect final desired results.

SKIN CONDITIONS (FACE ONLY) Skin Complications – If you have skin which is prone to complications with eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and dermatitis (i.e., your skin is constantly flaking, itching, or aggravated), chances are your skin is in a constant state of unrest and shedding and is not suitable for tattooing and therefore won’t hold the pigment well. Chronic Conditions – The same goes for conditions like chronic acne and rosacea. The inherent nature of this type of skin causes easy bleeding, which once again means your skin will not retain the color very well and intended effect of Nicroblading.

The nature of these types of skin causes easy bleeding once aggravated, which once again means your skin will not retain the color and intended effect of Microblading. State of Skin – If your skin is sensitive, it is likely to be easily aggravated and bleed easily. A good way to know if your skin is sensitive is if turns pink very easily from a little scratch.

For Microblading excessively oily skin can cause those tattooed hair strokes to blur together and give off an unwanted solid effect instead of a naturally feathered look. Therefore a Powder Brow will be suggested.

A powder brow will also be suggested if your skin has large pores, specifically in the region of the eyebrows and forehead (aka the T-Zone), Powder brow is recommended because the microblading technique will blur and result in a powdered look once healed over extended time

Along similar lines, Microblading hair strokes will not lay properly on skin with deep wrinkles, which can make the overall look appear uneven. Therefore a Powder Brow will be suggested.

Moles, bumps, piercing, and generally raised skin around the eyebrows will also not be able to retain color. (As a rule we do not tattoo over Moles as they can change over time)

How painful is it?

I use a topical 5% Lidocaine solution on my clients to assure they are as comfortable as possible. However, everyone has different pain tolerances. On a scale of 0-10, my clients range is from 0-4 with an average of 2. Some say it feels like their hair is being plucked, some say there is some soreness, while others fall asleep during the procedure. If you are experiencing any discomfort at any time we can stop and reapply numbing before we continue. Your comfort is very important to me.

How many procedures have you done?

Eyebrow Expert is approaching 6 years in business. Marie has performed over 1000 procedures on different skin types. She is 5 times certified and has understanding of color theory, anatomy, ideal brow shape and proper technique based on skin type.

What should I do before my treatment?

  • You must be off Accutane or any prescribed acne medications for 1year. NO exceptions!
  • Please do not drink any alcohol, CAFFEINE, including coffee or energizing drinks at least 24 hours before the treatment as they will thin your blood.
  • Do not take ADVIL or other blood thinners such as Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, or Ibuprofen (unless medically necessary) 48-72 hours prior to your treatment. Extra strength Tylenol can be taken if you are nervous about pain or have low pain tolerance.
  • Please NO tanning up to 14 days prior to treatment otherwise more treatments will be necessary for the skin to take the pigment.
  • No laser treatment on area 14 days prior to treatment.
  • Do not have chemical peels, microdermabrasions, mesotherapy or any intense treatment which will cause faster skin cell rejuvenating and cause skin irritation 3-4 weeks before procedure.
  • Botox should be done 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after treatment.
  • Avoid exercising the day of the procedure and do not excessively sweat 3 days after treatment.
  • If you get your eyebrows waxed, threaded or tinted, please have this done at least 72hrs before procedure. It is recommended to wait at least 14 days to wax or threaded and 30 days for tinting AFTER procedure.
  • Please keep in mind that sensitivity will increase during your menstrual cycle.
  • Wash hair before procedure.
